Table tennis: Tomokazu Harimoto beaten by world No. 1 Wang Chuqin in WTT Finals final

FUKUOKA (Kyodo) — Japan’s Tomokazu Harimoto lost the men’s singles final at table tennis’ WTT Finals in Fukuoka on Sunday, going down 11-2, 11-8, 11-7, 11-5 against world No. 1 Wang Chuqin of China.

Seventh-ranked Harimoto lost the opening 10 points and never led by more than a single point in the entire match at Kitakyushu General Gymnasium, where the contest ended within half an hour, and Wang claimed the title for the third straight time.

Harimoto led 8-7 in the second game and 4-3 in the fourth game but Wang quickly regained the advantage before the match was sealed when Harimoto mishit his serve.

He won the event’s previous version, the World Tour Grand Final, in 2018.

In the all-Chinese women’s singles final, Wang Manyu edged Chen Xingtong 13-11, 9-11, 4-11, 11-5, 5-11, 11-8, 11-5 for her first title.
