Cleveland’s Danceland was one of the most popular ballrooms in the city. Known for the caliber of the jazz groups who played there (Cliff Perrine and his Orchestra – NBC; Duke Ellington and others) and the dancers from Cleveland and those who danced coast to coast in 1931 (poster promotes Sunny Blaisdell and Freddie DeFelice), Danceland  was  located at 9810 Euclid Ave. Run by F.B. Conklin and his wife, who had been associated with Akron’s East Market Gardens, Danceland – like many other dance halls – ran into trouble with Cleveland 150 “dance hall inspectors” who were enforcing the city ordinance trying to keep a lid on the decorum and dress of couples who were dancing to jazz. Once Swing came in, the Conklins’ sold out and the dance hall became a skating rink. You are getting 10 copies of Danceland News for various dates from 1929 to 1933.
