    Description

    This is a large and very beautiful swirl decorated blackware pottery bowl by Severa Tafoya of Santa Clara Pueblo, circa 1950s, or so. Bowl is 10" in diameter and 3 " high at the rim, and it is in perfect original condition with a very highly polished black glaze. Severa Gutierrez Tafoya (1890-1973) was an accomplished potter and produced work for a good part of her life, with her best work done in the 1950s and '60s. The swirl design on the inside of the bowl is perfectly executed, and it reminds me of some of the melon jars with the ribbing or swirling on the outside. This was just found in New England.
